SERVICES AVAILABLE UNDER THE NEW GENERAL MEDICAL SERVICE CONTRACT

Core Services, Additional Services and some of the Enhanced Services as agreed by the Cardiff Local Health Board are provided by the practice. Please ask the Practice Manager or Senior Receptionist for the details of these services. Provision of few Enhanced services is responsibility of Cardiff Local Health Board.

CERVICAL CYTOLOGY (Smear Test)

Cervical smear test should be carried out once every three years between the ages of 20 and 65 years. Patients can make an appointment for this service by telephoning or in person. Patients are also invited by letter for this test. Practice Nurse is always available to patients for this purpose.

DISTRICT NURSE

The District Nurses duties include visiting Patients of any age in their home, giving practical assistance or offering professional advice. Each Patients needs are assessed and the care/treatment is planned accordingly. District Nursing sisters are experienced nurses with additional qualifications in district Nursing.

FAMILY PLANNING

A full range of family planning services is available during normal surgery hours. This includes contraceptive advice, oral contraceptive pill, contraceptive injection, pregnancy testing (via hospital), post-coital contraception, referral for termination of pregnancy where indicated by law. Coils can also be fitted at a mutually convenient time.

HEALTH VISITOR

Health Visitors are qualified and experienced nurses who specialise in child and family health. They are highly skilled in all aspects of childcare and development. They visit, at home, families with young children to assess their well being. Our Health Visitor is not based at the Practice any more. Please ask at reception for details.

MATERNITY MEDICAL SERVICES

Once pregnancy is confirmed, we arrange a shared care with the hospital, both before and after the baby is born. The community midwife will be involved throughout the period of pregnancy and also during post-natal period. They provide their services either at home or at the surgery on every Friday between 11am and 1pm. Please ask midwives or the receptionists for the appointment.

IDENTIFICATION OF CARER

This Practice aims to identify carers and to support them by raising the awareness concerning their rights and their needs. Please contact our 'Carers Champion', (Mrs Lynette Morris, Senior Receptionist) for further information.

NEW REGISTRATION HEALTH CHECK-UP

Persons who wish to register with us as a patient will be asked to fill in a brief questionnaire and will also be offered an appointment to see the Doctor or Practice Nurse to assess their general health, which includes height, weight and blood pressure measurement and also a routine test of urine. If necessary further investigations will be arranged.

The practice is not obliged to register persons on it's list if they live outside the Practice Area, but it does not discriminate on the grounds of race, gender, social class,age, religion, sexual orientation, appearance, disability or medical condition.

MINOR SURGERY

We perform a variety of minor surgical procedures in the practice such as removal and cauterisation of warts and veruccae and injection in the joints etc. This avoids the waiting for hospital appointments while suffering and also helps reduce NHS waiting lists.
